Introducing Rope Bondage into the Bedroom

What is Rope Bondage?

Rope bondage, also referred to as rope play, is bondage involving the use of rope to restrict movement, wrap, suspend or restrain your partner.

Intrigued? You're not alone. Rope bondage is one of the most popular categories of BDSM - with a recent YouGov poll showing that 12.7m of Brits have been tied up for sex.

Before you start - remember that communication is key. Ensure that you communicate your limits with your partner - perhaps you agree on a safe word or talk through your preferences. It's important that you're both comfortable.

Below is Subana's brief introduction to the different styles of rope bondage, and how you can experiment with one of the most favoured and diverse categories of BDSM.

Hand and Arm Bondage

The main purpose of hand and arm bondage is to restrain the recipient in efforts to reduce their immediate movement. The bondage rope you use can be tied solely around the recipient themselves, or it can be tied to an item of furniture, such as a bed frame or chair.

You may wish to embark on hand and arm bondage at the beginning of experimenting with rope, as it's an easy method to ease you in and get you comfortable. The receiver of the bondage rope usually takes the role of the submissive.

Full Body Bondage

Full body rope bondage is more advanced, but when done well, is highly enjoyable and allows the receiver to feel sensitivity in multiple areas of the body. You'll need a slightly longer rope for this - around 20m, or you can use two 10m ropes, dependant on how you wish to position the rope. We'll go soon more into depth with different methods of full body bondage and the types of knots and ties you can do.

Torso Bondage

Torso rope bondage often covers the crotch area. You'll want to wrap the rope around the torso, then position a knot in the middle, before directing the rope downwards - creating a tight line going down from the torso.

The purpose of the line and knot is so they pass between the labia, and the knot is in such a position that with back and forth motion, it will rub against and stimulate the clitoris.

Leg Bondage

Much like the use of a spreader bar, rope can be used to tie the legs apart, restraining the submissive into a vulnerable position to their partner. If you're positioned in bed, you can tie the rope to opposite ends of the bed frame in order to have the legs spread. This may require 2 ropes. Alternatively, you may wish to tie the legs apart using the recipients arms. For instance, tying the wrists to the thighs or ankles.

Breast Bondage

Breast bondage doesn't have to be extreme. When done correctly, it should allow reasonable pressure on the breasts to enhance their sensitivity, and can be paired with nipple clamps to intensify the overall sensation.

We hope you enjoyed our introduction to the different types of rope bondage. Remember, bondage rope doesn't always have to be used on its own. It often pairs well with BDSM items such as anal hooksspreader bars and collars.

Safety

Do not leave the rope tied for too long, and if discolouration occurs at any point, remove the rope immediately. Ensure that you have scissors on hand incase you are unable to untie the rope in such an event, and do not participate in rope bondage if the receiver feels unwell.
